Der Werbeblock: Matrix-1000 Firmware Update
Bob Grieb (tauntek.com) hat eine neue Firmware (V1.20) für den Matrix geschrieben, die ich mit seiner Erlaubnis für Europa und den Rest der Welt vertreibe. (Mehr im Shop.)
Verglichen mit der letzten Firmware-Version v1.11 von Oberheim sind die Vorteile:
- Die wichtigsten Parameter sind endlich in Echtzeit steuerbar
- Steuerung der Sound-Parameter per NPRN – Kontrolle eines Sounds über DAW oder über Controller, die kein Sysex beherrschen
- Display zeigt den eingestellten Wert eines Parameters
- Die Bugs – ENV1 Sustain und ENV2->VCA sind behoben
- GliGli’s Unison Detune mod enables detune control via CC #94
Für Besitzer eines Matrix-6/6R hat Bob die verbesserte Firmware V2.15 erstellt. Sie korrigiert einige Bugs und überträgt die beschleunigte Verarbeitung von Parameter-Steuerbefehlen auf den M6.
Zurück zum Matrix selbst: Ich bin seit den 90ern stolzer Besitzer dieses analogen Soundmoduls – und habe erst mit der Zeit verstanden, welche engen Grenzen die Technologie damals setzte. Hier das Wissen, das ich über die Matrix-Module zusammengetragen habe. Allerdings alles auf Englisch:

- I’ve designed a simple controller interface for the iPad with the €4.99 TB Midi Stuff app.Read here about it, and download the latest version for free in the TBMS forum. It’s like a virtual Access Matrix Programmer – no: it’s a lot better – and it works especially well with V1.16 and V1.20 ROMs.
- Owners of a Novation X-Station might have a look at the controller template in the Files section of the X-Station Yahoo group. No matrix control – but real knobs and sliders!
- As the X-Station is a bit outdated, why not consider Novation‘s SL Mkii controllers? They can be had with or without a keyboard, and although they are cheap on the 2nd hand market, the controllers‘ quality is nice, I really, really like the keybed and the Aftertouch, and they play along with the M1000 quite nicely. Here is an archive with three patches for full M1000 control (well, excluding the mod matrix).
- I also had a look at the Matrix Touch iPad editor when it came out – my verdict: it’s worth getting!
- The 2MHz 6809 brain of the Matrix-1000 is a bit overworked, and there have been attempts to replace it with something more powerful. First step is to replace the original CPU with a socket. And, as I’ve learned the hard way, have a replacement 6809 CPU ready.
