Aber die Nostalgie ist ein wichtiger Teil der Geschichte, deswegen: sorry but not sorry.<\/em> &#8230;im Jahr 2000 oder 2001 war ich eine Menge im Zug unterwegs. Ich hatte keinen Laptop, aber <strong>einen\u00a0 Handspring Visor PDA<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Handspring,_Inc.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#x1f310; Wikipedia<\/a>) &#8211; das waren batteriebetriebene Taschen-Minicomputer mit einem Touchscreen und einem Griffel, mit denen man einfache Aufgaben erledigen konnte: Kalender f\u00fchren, Texte schreiben, Mails senden und empfangen, und sogar ab und zu eine Webseite aufrufen.<\/p>\n<p>Das Ding wurde erst dann richtig n\u00fctzlich, als ich mir ein Zubeh\u00f6r gekauft hatte: eine faltbare Tastatur. Eine Firma namens Think Outside stellte die &#8222;Targus Stowaway&#8220;-Tastaturen her. Sie bestanden aus einem Metallgeh\u00e4use, das man mit einem sehr befriedigenden Klicken ver- und entriegeln konnte, und in dessen Inneren ein in vier Einzelteile zerlegtes Keyboard wartete.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_6485\" style=\"width: 543px\"  class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.untergeek.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/IMG_8103-scaled.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-6485\" src=\"http:\/\/www.untergeek.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/IMG_8103-533x400.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"533\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.untergeek.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/IMG_8103-533x400.jpeg 533w, https:\/\/www.untergeek.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/IMG_8103-200x150.jpeg 200w, https:\/\/www.untergeek.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/IMG_8103-768x576.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/www.untergeek.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/IMG_8103-1536x1152.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/www.untergeek.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/IMG_8103-2048x1536.jpeg 2048w, https:\/\/www.untergeek.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/IMG_8103-400x300.jpeg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 533px) 100vw, 533px\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Handspring Visor Deluxe in transparent blue lying next to a fully unfolded Stowaway keyboard<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Wenn ich also im Zug unterwegs war und arbeiten wollte, nahm ich den Visor und die Tastaturbox aus der Tasche, klickte sie &#8212; Zzzing! &#8212; auf, faltete die Tastatur auf, klackte sie zusammen und steckte den Visor in den Sockel. Und der Entfaltungs-Trick mit der Tastatur brachte manchen Unterkiefer zum Herunterklappen bei den Mitreisenden.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 584px;\" class=\"wp-video\"><video class=\"wp-video-shortcode\" id=\"video-6482-1\" width=\"584\" height=\"329\" preload=\"metadata\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"video\/mp4\" src=\"http:\/\/www.untergeek.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/stowaway.mp4?_=1\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.untergeek.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/stowaway.mp4\">http:\/\/www.untergeek.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/stowaway.mp4<\/a><\/video><\/div>\n<p>Dann brauchte ich nur noch mein zuverl\u00e4ssiges\u00a0Siemens S35 (&#x1f310; <a href=\"https:\/\/nat.museum-digital.de\/object\/1272046?navlang=de\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nixdorf Museum<\/a>), musste es sorgf\u00e4ltig in die N\u00e4he des Visors legen, damit es \u00fcber eine leider \u00fcberhaupt nicht zuverl\u00e4ssige Infrarot-Schnittstelle die Verbindung ins dezidiert unzuverl\u00e4ssige deutsche Handynetz entlang der Bahnstrecken damals aufbaute. Und mit viel Gl\u00fcck und Beharrlichkeit gelang es mir manchmal, <strong>Mails zu senden und empfangen. Reine Magie!<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Die alte Technologie wiederbeleben<\/h2>\n<p>Wie <a href=\"https:\/\/www.untergeek.de\/de\/2014\/11\/tough-love-why-we-love-retro\/\">schon \u00f6fter hier erw\u00e4hnt<\/a>: Diese alte Magie hinterl\u00e4sst Spuren, die bis heute wirken. Als ich also die alte Tastatur in einer Schublade entdeckte und dann erfolgreich erste Experimente mit Raspi Picos und Micro Python gemacht hatte, habe ich beschlossen, die alte Hardware wiederzubeleben und ein Pico-basiertes USB-Interface daf\u00fcr zu basteln, als kleine \u00dcbung.<\/p>\n<h2>Die Schlusspointe<\/h2>\n<p>Das war alles nicht besonders aufw\u00e4ndig oder kompliziert &#8211; am l\u00e4ngsten habe ich noch an den Details des Interface-Skripts geschraubt. Nur, um am Ende zu entdecken, dass meine Stowaway-Tastatur leider besch\u00e4digt ist: Drei Tasten inklusive der Leertaste funktionieren nicht; anscheinend ist eine Scanline kaputt.
