The Minimoog (etc.) emulations just cut through the mix. <\/li><li><strong>BUT<\/strong> VA emulations of classics are aplenty. <\/li><li><strong>BUT <\/strong>it&#8217;s hardware! <\/li><li><strong>BUT <\/strong>the technology is old. <\/li><li><strong>BUT <\/strong>it is really faithful to the old classics!<\/li><li><strong>BUT<\/strong> you haven&#8217;t got any controls &#8211; and it is above and all about workflow and usability, not about the sound. Otherwise use samples. <\/li><li> <strong>BUT<\/strong> I can build my own controllers!<\/li><li> <strong>BUT<\/strong> would you ever?<\/li><li> <strong>BUT<\/strong>  I already DID create a controller you can actually <a href=\"https:\/\/www.untergeek.de\/2019\/09\/dinopark-mit-novation-sl-und-ipad-controller-panel\/\">touch<\/a>. <\/li><li> <strong>BUT<\/strong> how could you package all that tech in a way that makes sense, is easy to do, and is actually (GASP) fun to play???<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The last question kept on nagging me so I kind of dodged it and came up with the easyiest possible solution. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"DIY Dino Box - Minimoog &amp; Friends In A Cardboard Box!\" width=\"584\" height=\"329\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/sNN37TIKddI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Behold: The Dino Box. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am very proud of the artwork &#8211; my kids did most of it. I have taken the box for a first test drive with my band, and it worked fine. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What you need: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li> a MakeAudioPro Dino Park VA Synth board (\u20ac279)<\/li><li>a 12V\/500mA power supply (\u20ac5)<\/li><li>TB Midi Stuff app (\u20ac5)<\/li><li>Modstep sequencer app (\u20ac11)<\/li><li>Lightning-to-USB-adapter, aka \u201eCamera Connection Kit (\u20ac49)<\/li><li>an iPad Air, 1st generation (\u20ac120)<\/li><li>the iPad\u2018s cardboard box (free) <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"533\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.untergeek.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/img_4051-533x400.jpg\" alt=\"Back of the box, with power supply, 1\/4\" class=\"wp-image-5207\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.untergeek.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/img_4051-533x400.jpg 533w, https:\/\/www.untergeek.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/img_4051-200x150.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.untergeek.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/img_4051-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.untergeek.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/img_4051-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 533px) 100vw, 533px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Couple of notes: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>I will possibly add a small back plate glued to the cardboard to give the Dino&#8217;s output sockets more stability. <\/li><li>If you use the USB bus master to connect to a powered hub, you could use a Lightning cable to charge the iPad while playing. (Well, technically you could also solder aforementioned cable to the +5V supply on the board, but is it really worth doing that?)<\/li><li>I DO like the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"TB Midi Stuff app (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/de\/app\/tb-midi-stuff\/id480953919\" target=\"_blank\">TB Midi Stuff app<\/a>, but as of this time of writing, it is almost abandonware. The author promised to do an iOS12\/13 update, but I would not blame him if he didn&#8217;t. <\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/de\/app\/modstep\/id966990643\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Modstep (opens in a new tab)\">Modstep<\/a> is a great sequencer and beatbox with a more than passing resemblance to Live, but like Live, it is no simple tool. And there have been no updates for a while &#8211; once again, I do not blame the programmer.
